Gene Miller

Canister by Gene Miller I'm probably not your typical potter, but I was hooked at first touch. My first interest in pottery was in 1988 when a friend in college showed me a mug she had made. The mug was basically a hand painted mold that was purchased as greenware. At the time, I didn't really know much about pottery but I liked the idea and started making personalized items for friends and family. Pottery was one of my many hobbies while earning a Computer Science degree at Southwest Texas State University.

Several years down the road I decided to get some wheel throwing instruction. I guess I was lucky because I landed in a high-fire environment with instruction from Ken Turner. I was extremely inspired by Ken's excitement and love for clay...I have been throwing ever since.
All of my recent work has been fired in the mid to high-fire range with an occasional Raku firing. Since experiencing high-fire techniques, I haven't ventured back into the low-fire ranges. I especially like the earthy tones and ruggedness that high fire stoneware provides. Please contact me if you would like to see more of my work.
